Whatcom Chorale: “Lest We Forget…”

March 17, 2019 @ 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm

$5 – $18

Whatcom Chorale presents the first performance of award-winning composer Sarah Mattox’s poignant “Heart Mountain Choral Suite,” based on the diaries of WWII Japanese internment camp survivor Kara Kondo. The role of Kara will be sung by Metropolitan Opera Guild mezzo-soprano Kimberly Sogioka, whose grandparents were also interned at Heart Mountain War Relocation Center in Wyoming. A curated multimedia exhibit about the Japanese internment, Heart Mountain, and Kara Kondo will be available for viewing after the concert.

The program also features soprano Lindsey Nakatani, a graduate of Bellingham’s Squalicum High School and The Juilliard School, in Felix Mendelssohn’s “Hear My Prayer” for soloist and choir, and organist Wade Dingman and Whatcom Chorale in Louis Vierne’s evocative “Solemn Mass.”

Tickets are available at the door and online through Brown Paper Tickets.
