Film Screening – Persona Non Grata & Sugihara Survivors

July 29, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm

The Consulate-General of Japan in Seattle and the Holocaust Center for Humanity will host a panel discussion and screening of two films about Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara at the Broadway Performance Hall of Seattle Central College. Prior to the event, there will be an opportunity to talk with the director of one of the films, Junichi Kajioka, with light refreshments served. Chiune Sugihara served as vice Consul for the Japanese government in Kaunas, Lithuania. During WWII, Sugihara helped some six thousand Jews flee Europe by issuing visas to them so that they could travel through Japanese territory, risking his job and his family’s lives. RSVP at https://sugiharaseattle.eventbrite.com. Admission is free but seats are limited.
