Tacoma Japanese Garden
The "Pagoda" in the Japanese Garden at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma was built in 1914 primarily as a waiting room for streetcar riders. It was designed by local architect Luther Twichell as an eclectic Japanese temple. The shrine and torii (gate) in the garden were donated by Kokura, Tacoma's sister city in Japan.
