Furuya Building

The M. Furuya Company, the largest Japanese-owned mercantile house on the Pacific coast, did business in this building from August 1900 until mid-October of 1941. The Japanese Association as well as the first Japanese language School were on the second floor. Furuya's Pacific Commercial Bank, which failed in 1931, was located in the corner space on the first floor. Much of bank interior, including the original vaults, still exists today due to the good stewardship of the Masin family.
