A Sophisticated Variation of the Japanese 'Cat Eye' Look For Summer!

By Lilly Tran
The North American Post

Summer make-up is all about sophisticated natural beauty, especially in the eyes! Don't worry too much about covering up blemishes during the summer season. People are off to the beach or pool swimming and most could care less about cover up as it just washes off. Instead, the bulk of your make-up applying should be on the eyes. This summer, it is all about the warm colors so stick with a color palette based on browns, yellows, oranges and reds for a hot summer look.

In Japan, the 'cat eye' look has grown to popularity. They prefer various coats of mascara for a bolder lash and instead of a pencil eyeliner, they go for a liquid liner that creates a more defined line. To finish off the cat eye look, they extend the eye liner applied to the top of the eye out instead of stopping at the crease of the ends of the eye. Instead of focusing on a warm eye shadow color, they tend to lean towards blues, purples and grays.

The 'cat eye' is an amazing look for the evening. I personally love dark eyes, but not the extremely dark smoky eye. Rather, I prefer the perfect shade of darkness that is flattering and appropriate for all times of the day. Try my variation of the 'cat eye' look and you will be good for the morning, work and then going out later in the evening! I start off with mascara, eyeliner, and lastly an eye shadow pencil. It's quick, looks sophisticated and makes your eyes stand out more, and become your center focus as you steer away from cover-up and rosy cheeks.

To get the fabulous 'cat eye' variation that I love, there is no need to break-a-sweat! Try my favorite look for the summer and even year-round for just $25!

To get the look...

1. Apply multiple coats of mascara to the top and bottom lashes. Be careful and apply slowly to avoid eyelash clumping. Try: MAC Pro Longlash in Pitch Black, $12
2. Take a waterproof eyeliner pencil and apply to the top and bottom lines of the eye. For a darker look, go over the lines of the eye a couple of times. Try: Sephora Brand Keep Kohl! Waterproof Liner in Keep Black, $8
3. Use an eye shadow crayon and apply to the top crease of the eye and lower lash line. The shimmer in the crayon will leave you with 'fuss-free glitter' that shines and sparkles in the sun. Try: Sephora Brand Jumbo Pencil - Eye in Beige, $5
4. To complete the look, take an eye shadow brush and lightly brush the top and bottom to smooth out the eye shadow. This evenly spreads the shimmer in the crayon around your eyes.
